The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is establishing a dedicated Creative Industries Growth Fund.  The fund is aimed at growing the creative industry sector within the borough and creating employment opportunities, work experience, training and apprenticeships for local residents.

Support to individuals starting up a business will also be a feature of the programme.  The fund is primarily for activity related to the creative industries sector. This fund aims to support creative industries while at the same time focusing on local employment and economic growth opportunities.

Capital funding will be made available through the Creative Industries Growth Fund to:-

  • Fund the initial capital start up costs for a creative industry business at The Icehouse Quarter (attached for space available www.thegranarybarking.co.uk)
  • Create employment and training opportunities for borough residents
  • Offer apprenticeship opportunities for young people
  • Offer support (mentoring) to small and medium size business in the creative industries sector

Funding of up to £50,000 is available for capital start up costs for a new creative industry.  The funds will take the form of an interest free loan repayable over an agreed term of no more than 3 years .

Studio space will be made available at the Icehouse Quarter. All other costs including running and staff costs are to be provided by the successful bidder. A business plan and repayment model should be submitted as part of the bid submission.

Are you a SME in the Creative and Digital Sector currently exploring growth and development opportunities?

Would you be excited by an opportunity to take part in a FREE event to explore business opportunities with major UK and international brands, offering them your innovative solutions to meet their needs and transform your ideas into revenue?

Business in the Community, a business-led charity with over 850 members, including 75% of the FTSE 250, is inviting applications from SMEs in the Creative and Digital sector to take part in a fast paced, interactive event with Senior Marketing Professionals from large businesses, including Santander and Odeon/UCI Cinemas.

The day will feature a combination of purchasing insight, live commercial innovation briefs and interactive breakout sessions.

On Friday 30th August one representative from 60 successful SMEs will be invited to attend based on previous contract history and ability to grow and create jobs. SMEs must be based and trading within the UK, but there is no requirement to be based in London.
